Early Childhood Programs in Philadelphia

Beginnings Learning Center is a private, play-based preschool and early learning center in Bella Vista, Philadelphia, serving children from approximately 10 months through preschool age. Programs are organized by age, with age ranges used as general guidelines. Depending on their age and classroom, children experience literacy, art, music, movement, outdoor play, classroom exploration, and opportunities to build independence and social-emotional skills. Stars
Approximately 10-16 months

The Stars program provides a caring introduction to early learning, with a daily schedule tailored to each child. At Beginnings, babies are introduced to literacy, art, and music as part of their day, with experiences designed to support emerging communication, cognitive development, and early exploration.

Like all programs at Beginnings, the Stars classroom reflects the school’s belief that children learn through meaningful, age-appropriate experiences in a supportive environment. Teachers focus on the individual child while creating opportunities to explore and engage with the world around them.

Full-time enrollment and a part-time Tuesday–Thursday schedule are available.

Teddy Bears
Approximately 17 - 26 months

The Teddy Bears program centers on each child’s individual needs, with daily support, encouragement, and attention from Beginnings teachers. Children are given age-appropriate opportunities to learn, explore, and grow in a caring environment where their individual pace and development are respected.

Across Beginnings, social and emotional growth is considered an important part of early learning. Children are encouraged, as appropriate for their age, to begin exercising independence and making decisions with the guidance of experienced teachers who know when to step in and offer support.

Full-time enrollment and a part-time Tuesday–Thursday schedule are available.

Tigers
Approximately 27 months - 3 years

The Tigers program offers children a safe, stimulating environment filled with age-appropriate toys and opportunities to learn through play. Learning centers, dramatic play, and classroom activities encourage children to explore while supporting cognitive, physical, and motor development.

Outdoor play is also part of the Tigers experience. Beginnings has a large private backyard where children have space for safe outdoor play and movement. Throughout the program, teachers provide guidance and age-appropriate opportunities for children to build independence while continuing to develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively.

Full-time enrollment and a part-time Tuesday–Thursday schedule are available.

Pre-K
3 - 5.5 years

The Pre-K program combines play-based learning with a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare children for their next stage of learning. Mornings include structured opportunities for movement, art, and Blueprint, the literacy program developed by Children’s Literacy Initiative. Teachers adapt lesson plans to the individual needs of the children in their classroom.

Learning also extends beyond Beginnings. Preschool children take daily trips to Seger and Palumbo Parks and regular trips to places including Charles Santore Library, the local fire department, and Whole Foods. The program also participates in Sound All Around at the Kimmel Center and Museum Looks and Picture Books at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
